"No one's showing up to say it's what we need. So you have to assume people oppose the idea."

Some central Texans are saying not in my backyard on the proposed multi-billion dollar super highway called the Trans-Texas Corridor.

Transportation officials held a public hearing in McGregor Monday evening, one of several hearings scheduled for this area.

Nearly 200 people turned out for the meeting, 20 of whom made public comments, all opposing it.

McGregor is no longer in the preferred route for the corridor, but many say they're still worried about what this means for Texas as a whole.

Ernie Casberr of McGregor explained, "If people were for this, they'd show up to say 'this is what we need' and no one's showing up to say it's what we need. So you have to assume people oppose the idea."

Ken Roberts, a TxDOT representative, explained, "Regardless if an individual agrees or disagrees with the Trans-Texas Corridor we want their comments and statements that go in for the Federal Highway Administration's review."

Hearings will continue through August.

In January the Federal Highway Administration will begin reviewing final plans for the 6.2-billion dollar project.
