The Trans-Texas Corridor project is now a hot debate topic between Governor Perry and Texas Independent Candidate for Governor Carole Keeton Strayhorn.

The proposed highway would carve a path between Nacogdoches and Angelina counties. Former Lufkin Mayor Louis Bronaugh is among those supporting the project. He sees the debate over the project between candidates for office as purely political.

Louis Bronaugh, who is on the I-69 committee, said, "I think Strayhorn is making it political, because she needed to attack the present governor anyway she can, and we understand it. It's a political football, we just don't know how it's going to bounce, I talked to Senator Hutchison and she is very much in favor of this."

It would be many years before the project would be complete.
